FAQ’s about Boots

Q Is it true that my child can not win in English classes if he/she does not have tall boots?
A No. Horse show judges are well trained and well versed in show rules. If your rule book allows for paddock boots or tall boots then your child will be judged fairly in either. You trainer will have an opinion as to what they prefer your child to lwear. Just be sure that the remainder of your turn out is correct and immaculate. With paddock boots, cuffed jodhpur pants are appropriate and garters complete the look. If you opt for tall boots on your child be sure they are of good quality leather or synthetic leather (not rubber), they fit well and are clean and polished. See our guidelines for boot care below. Styles, trends and colors vary around the country. If you plan to show in another state or the judge for your show comes from another state they may be used to looking at a slightly different look.

Q How should I break in and take care of my new boots?
A Here are some tips from E.Vogel, the oldest custom boot company in the USA. They have been selected repeatedly as the bootmaker for the U.S. Olympic Team as well as for the finest equestrain athletes worldwide. For optimum care it is best to clean off your footwear as soon as possible after each wearing. Using a soft cloth or sponge dampened in plain water, gently lift or float off the surfact dirt, residue and dust to neutralize the harmful effects of horse sweat, salts and acids to the leather. Be sure to clean mud from soles and between the seams where the foot of the boot meets the sole. Do not scrub as this will be detrimental to the leather's sensitive surface. Moost important-NEVER USE SADDLE SOAP-which is not intended for and is too harsh on boot leather. While the boots are still damp, insert boot trees and apply a good conditioner-as needed-which helps replenish the leather's natural oils. Allow the boots to air dry thoroughly-NEVER NEAR HEAT-. After the boots have dried, apply a boot polish with a damp cloth or applicator for surface protection, let dry and buff with a horsehair bristle brush for a superb shine. Store in a well ventilated dry area away from sunlight.
